York Shire

The history of the first Shire of Normandy reaches back into 1990 with the founding of Vlissinger Hearth, of the Ring of Troth. Named for the Old Dutch township, Flushing, founded in 1649, this study-group turned kindred has been the well-spring of much cutting edge doings and deeds in modern Heathen circles. From its inception, its members have been active in the modern Asatru & Heathen revival. Boasting such early Troth Redesmen as Lou Sancio and Dan O'Halloran, and Heathen scholars like Heiðini founder (and now Normandy member) Joseph Bloch, this rag-tag group of 20-somethings & upstarts have become mainstays today's Heathen community, while laboring on leaving and enduring mark on posterity.

After several years of Troth service, they became Irminsul Garth/Kindred, and hosted such notable Heathens as Garman Lord of the Winland Rice and Jormundr Ingvi, of the Icelandic Asatruamenn. They traversed the country and attended moots from Canada to California, Texas to Toronto, and everywhere in between. From there, a Shire of the Winland Rice was born, and Normandy Thiud was realized in the summer of 1997.

Currently York Shire serves as the home of the Atheling lord of Normandy, Dan Hera O'Halloran where he presides over monthly meetings and religious fainings. Primarily an education and outreach community, the York Shire is building its land fund for purchase of both a downstate and upstate religious Hof and heathen stead. Situated in the City that Never Sleeps, the Normannii are proud to boast their locale, and its community who can endure any storm and prosper!

They can be found at the monthly New York Troth Pub-Moots, NYMAS gatherings, and have assisted the NYC Pagan Pride Project. A duly incorporated not-for-profit, the Normannii folk strive to better themselves, their community, and their relations with the Gods and Land.
