Our Beliefs
Why reconstruct a "long dead" religious system?
If one intends on doing that, why a people who
converted almost immediately after founding a new realm, and leaving
their old Danish beliefs behind?
The Elder Germanic faith has never really been dead.
It has been subsumed in the modern folk-consciousness, and overlaid upon
Christianity. From the "12 Days of Yule" to Easter, the Heathen holy
tides have clung to the Anglo-Germanic world. The days of the week, the
modes of law, and the very ethic of our society, revering honor and
sacrifice for the community are hallmarks of the Elder Trowe's
endurance. Whether one has seen Lord of the Rings or read Grimm's
fairy tales, reveled in Excalibur and Le Morte d'Arthur - the ancient
religion has survived - albeit relegated to Myth and Legend. The Poetic
Edda and Sagas, the remnants of our lore, remain in spite of the veneer
of Christianity in the European world.
The revival of our elder beliefs stems from the fact
that as we develop more and more, we learn that basically- we are our
Deeds. We are the sum-total of where we have come from. The way of our
ancestors is Our way- because, DNA included, we are our
ancestors. We are inheritors of a birthright of belief, a system of
doing, and way of looking at the world. It is this axiom and truth that
CG Jung espoused when he said, "The God of the Germans IS the God of the
Germans."
